Will Your Wedding Photographer Capture Your Day Your Way?

I am very lucky. I truly love what I do.  One of the reasons I love my job is that I get to work with and meet some of the most talented people in the country.

Just this past week I had the opportunity to meet with, probably, one of the most revered photographers in the special events industry. He was charming, humble and really, really nice. The meeting was very productive and a lot of fun.  We ended up having a conversation about the process and the shots that he chooses to take. Candidly speaking of course.

This got me thinking about the candid shots that a photographer should or could take.  For instance let’s say that something big happens at your wedding like: on the way up to your reception your Grandmother who has severe cataracts, can’t really see the stairs on the escalator, miscalculates her step and falls on the escalator. As she falls she takes down your mother and possibly a few others.  Feet dangling- legs in the air- unmentionables showing.  It is a mess! Would you want a photo of this moment? Or would you think that taking the shot was in bad taste? What if your 4 year old nephew sneaks up to the cake and sticks his finger in it, would you want that photo? Or maybe you are so choked with emotion during the ceremony that when you cry the tears completely destroy your makeup and you have black stains dripping down your face; would it be in bad taste for the photographer to take that picture?

I am really curious to know how many people want their photographer to take all the possible shots of both good and bad moments or do you think he should avoid the candids that show you and/or your guests poorly.

Wedding Day Makeup What You Should Know

Makeup is probably the most important wedding day accessory. Done correctly it will compliment your features and allow them to be more prominent in your photos and film.  However, when choosing your makeup artist make sure that they get who you are and can highlight your features and have you looking like yourself instead of applying layers of cakey makeup so that in the end you don’t really recognize yourself.
If makeup is not your thing and you do not wear it daily let them know.  Clear communication is the key. If you think you want smokey eyes then try it prior to your wedding day.  With the clock ticking the last thing you will want to do is wash your face and start over.
On your wedding day have your photographer present when you are having your makeup applied.  Through his digital lens you will be able to see yourself instantly and know if your makeup has been blended well.  Remember, high resolution cameras are going to pick up and highlight every imperfection-
When you do your trial run prior to your wedding day bring a picture of your dress, bouquet and hair accessories.
Unless your makeup artist is your best friend or an invited guest purchase the lipstick you decide to use on your wedding day.  You will need it throughout the day for touch ups.
Make up is here to enhance your beauty not hide it. It is your wedding be comfortable with how you look so you can relax and enjoy your special day.

5 Must Ask Questions For Interviewing a Photographer

When you hire a photographer for your wedding you are assuming that they clearly know their job and that when the wedding day comes they will just take care of getting all the right photos, collecting all the guests for the formal shots, knowing how much time they will need to do this…. The list is endless.
I would like to think that this is always the case.
The last thing you want on your wedding day is your photographer standing around waiting for you to take charge and direct the photo session.  After all this is your day!
So when interviewing your photographer ask them these 5 things:
How many assistants they will provide?
What is their method for gathering the guests for formal portraits?
How many shooters will they provide?
How much time do they need for the pre-wedding photos?
Will they have enough time to shoot the room before guests enter?
